On Sunday, June 8, at the
10:00 a.m. Worship Service, we are extending well wishes to Intern Wallace Bornhuse. As well,
Faith will be welcoming the St. Timothy Congregation as the two congregations
join their ministries together. This
Worship Service represents the new beginning of joint ministries after two
years of conversation, planning, and prayer.
Much of the planning and prayer was initiated by the Faith/St. Timothy
Partnership Committee (six members from each congregation and pastoral
advisors) culminating in motions passed at both congregational Annual Meetings
on February 3, 2008.
The essence of the
motions passed at both Annual Meetings were these:
(Final
decisions on motions 2 and 3 to be made at future congregational meetings).
On Sunday, June 8, in worship,
St. Timothy will be formally welcomed at Faith.
As suggested by the Worship Committee of Faith and the Worship and Music
Committee of St. Timothy, some of the furniture and decorations that have
formerly been utilized in the St. Timothy Sanctuary will be brought into the
sanctuary at Faith for continued use in the joint worship services. This will be an exciting celebration
together, beginning in worship and subsequently expanding to join efforts in
all of our individual ministries and mission outreach from each separate congregation
Faith’s 40th Anniversary
Pastor Earl Lewis has these comments
for the 40th Anniversary of Faith:
Dear friends:
Congratulations on the celebration of your 40th
Anniversary. Forty years ago the
Board of Canadian Missions caught a vision which included a
much-needed expansion
of our church work in the Normanview area of

Again, congratulations.
We shall be thinking of you as you celebrate. May God

Internship
Faith and St. Timothy congregations
decided in early 2007 to host an intern from Lutheran Theological Seminary in
Wallace
Bornhuse began his pastoral “learning by leading”
experience in both congregations on August 20, 2007. Wallace has preached, led worship, taught
Confirmation classes, led young adult ministries, and created
a “Families with Young Children” ministries. He has attended ‘GriefShare’ sessions, marriage preparation sessions, retreats,
and conferences. Wallace has actively
participated in Church Council meetings in both congregations,
weekly pastoral staff meetings, weekly supervision meetings, and monthly
Internship Committee meetings. He has
also been mentored and encouraged by three pastors of our congregations. In other words, Wallace has had a full range
of pastoral experiences at Faith and St. Timothy, adding to his skills,
competence, and sense of call in serving Jesus Christ as an ordained
pastor. And besides all the above,
Wallace has become engaged to be married to
Wallace’s “learning by leading” time
with us is soon to be concluded, on June 20.
We have certainly appreciated his pastoral leadership, his humor and laughter, his keen interest in learning, and his
strong faith in Jesus Christ.
A Farewell Ceremony is scheduled for
Sunday, June 8, at the 10:00 a.m. joint Worship
Service of Faith and St. Timothy. A
lunch and “fun time” with Wallace will follow the service.
Being An
Intern at Faith & St. Timothy, Part II
My
journey as an intern here at Faith and St. Timothy has been intense, exhausting
at times, and full of wonderful and exciting experiences. This internship has been a lot of fun, and
the experiences I have gained from this internship I will carry with me
throughout my career. Overall, I
experienced hospital visiting, pastoral visiting, GriefShare,
confirmation, many baptisms, weddings, a funeral, young adult ministry, some
youth ministry, many opportunities to preach, Bible studies, young family
ministries, staff functions, conferences and conventions, a merging church,
early Easter and many other experiences.
My experiences have been bountiful.
The
Internship Committee was a wonderful support during the bumpy roads. I enjoyed the feedback from the congregation
on the different areas of ministry in which the Internship Committee
researched.
The
Chair of the Internship Committee says, “As we come to the conclusion of our Internship
Program with Wallace, as chairperson of the committee, I would just like to say
that this has been a learning experience as well as an enjoyable experience for
those of us on the committee. It is most encouraging to see a young
person so enthused and committed to becoming a Pastor. We have seen
Wallace grow in many aspects and areas during his journey and know that there
will be more growth as Wallace continues along in the years ahead. On behalf of the entire Committee (Corinne,
Gordon, Garry, Gaylene, Rueben and Bev) I would like
to take this opportunity to wish Wallace and Erin the very best, both in their
spiritual journey and their new life together.”
I enjoyed
being a part of the staff here at Faith and St. Timothy, and will be sad to
leave. But I will be leaving with many
tools that I am grateful for. So thank
you for giving me the opportunity to learn and form into a pastoral identity
that I hope will be successful in other ministries in my lifetime. God Bless.
It has been a blast being here.

Please feel free to borrow books. All you have to do is put your name and the
current date on the card provided in the little grey box. When you return the book, put the date it is
returned on that same card and then place the book back on the shelf (i.e. if
you were reading “Held for Ransom” you would place it back in the “H”
section). There is one exception, if the
title of the book starts with “The” you go to the
first letter of the next word in the title and file it under that letter.
The

reading.
Faith Men’s Ministry is made up of three groups who
continue to be active. The groups
provide a variety of meeting times from Wednesday mornings to Friday at noon
and Thursday evenings. Usually, the
groups recess for the summer.
The groups are always open to
attracting new members. Leaders Gord, Myron
and Stan would like to invite anyone interested in joining a group, to contact
them or contact the church office. If
you know of two or more men who wish to start a group, we would be glad to
provide assistance in getting going.
Come out to meet some of the men in
the congregation. It is a wonderful time of friendship and fellowship.
The groups continue to use the
Master Builder Bible as their study resource. The studies included with this
Bible get individuals thinking about and discussing real issues each of us has
to deal with every day. The group may use a structured theme type study or may
follow the studies outlined for each book of the Bible. The groups provide a
caring, safe, friendly environment for men to meet with other men and discuss
issues relating to their own personal situation.

Intern Wallace
It has
been a real privilege to take the lead in this year’s confirmation class. The teenage crew has been great to work with. I am sad to see my part in the program come
to an end this year, but the experiences of teaching and working with other
pastors has been beneficial for my formation into a pastoral identity. The students were very energetic throughout
the program and, I felt, really connected with my presence. Thirty-one students
each brought different gifts to our confirmation program.
The
Super Saturdays were a lot of fun, and I enjoyed working with other pastors to
plan these classes. I want to give special
thanks to the guides and substitute teachers who worked very hard to provide a
wonderful work environment for the students.
It was a real privilege to work with the guides in attempting to provide
the best learning environment for the students.
I want to give special thanks to the
parents who helped with preparing meals on Tuesdays. I had some good feasts. I really enjoyed Tuesdays, because it was my
opportunity to get to know the students on a deeper more meaningful level.
The “Lock-In” was very successful. I enjoyed hanging out with the students and
playing sports with them, and talking to them.
I remember even being schooled at basketball by one particular
student. Those memories will stick with
me always. So thank you to all who
participated in confirmation. Pastor
Darlene, Pastor Murray and I were grateful to be a part of the staff that
taught the confirmation students.

activities. The children will then get to take home the workbook they have used
throughout the year.
June 1
– Family Worship & Picnic in the Park – there will be activities and games
after the worship and picnic lunch. This
is a great family day and opportunity to meet and spend some time with families
that you worship with.
We are
beginning to think about the next year and the new life that awaits our
children. We are also blessed to have
St. Timothy’s children and teachers enrich our Children’s Ministry program.
YOUNG FAMILY PROJECT
As
part of my Internship Program I was required to strike up a mission project
with a particular target group. With the
help of some members, I decided to reach out to young families with children. We ended up having four families in the
planning committee including one from outside the church community, which was
wonderful.
The
goal of the project was to reach out to the outer community. The February Family Snow Day was fun and
exciting. We had at least nine families
participate in the event. Everyone had a
blast sleighing and eating hot dogs. We
had at least three of those families from the community outside the
church.
Our
final event on April 25, is the Family Carnival
Extravaganza! Thank you to all those
families from St. Timothy and Faith who helped out!

A
Definition of STEWARDSHIP
"CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP
is the grateful and responsible use
of God’s universe. Everything we
have is a gift from
God entrusted to our care.
Christian stewards commit themselves
to conscious, purposeful decisions for the individual and for the community. Stewardship is a joyful act for the
protection and enhancement of God's world.”
Currently there are 36 families or
individuals signed up for pre-authorized debits for their donations to our
congregation. This program allows families to continue giving during periods
where they will be absent from the church.
Faith Lutheran’s 2nd
Annual Dinner Theatre entitled “Catch Me If You Can” was held April 9-12. From all reports it was another success!
Profits
from this event go to our Building Fund.
Remember, stewardship is also
comprised of our time and talents.
Several people took time out of their busy schedules to help clean our
church interior on April 21-24. Your
efforts are much appreciated.
Many people contributed items for
Faith’s table at the “Worlds Biggest Garage Sale”. One
man’s junk is another man’s treasure . . . recycle!” Money raised is earmarked for the youth group.
Phone book delivery will take place in
June. The dates will be announced in the bulletin. This year the funds will be used for our
ministries as Church Council determines.
In the future, our Stewardship

Timothy Lutheran Church.
